Dr. James M. Sweeney
Dr. Sweeney is a Northwest native who loves the outdoor activities Whatcom County offers. He is a 3rd generation health care professional who's grandfather was a longtime surgeon and who's father retired after over 40 years as a pediatric dentist.
He earned two undergraduate degrees in Biology and Psychology concurrently and then took 6 months off to work at an isolated missionary hospital in the Peruvian Amazon. Upon returning, he studied at Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois, earning his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree in 1997. Chicago is home to the American Dental Association which is adjacent to Northwestern's medical complex. In 2004 he also completed the accelerated MBA program at Western Washington University here in Bellingham.
Dr. Sweeney believes that it is important to stay up-to-date with dental techniques and materials and devotes many more hours than are required every year at education conferences. He has been a member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry for over 10 years. He also belongs to the Academy of General Dentistry, Academy of Osseointegration and the ICOI.
In his spare time Dr. Sweeney will either be skiing at Mt.Baker or sea kayaking around Puget Sound.
